It was the 30th of June as Damien woke up early. He sat up in his bed, looking down. “A special day for me... but just another monday for the rest of the world.” He soon got up as he get himself dressed. And walked down the stairs.

His parents, as usual, were out of the house without leaving a note. “Well, I guess I shall celebrate my birthday alone like usual,” he said.

Today was Damien’s birthday, however, no one else ever cared about him. He didn’t had friends and his parents didn’t look up at him.  While he usually didn’t have a problem with this, today, he felt he needed a birthday that was... well, a birthday and not just another day.

After mocking around at home for several hours, he decided to go for a walk, to refresh his thought’s. He went to the forest where he usually walked around. When he was walking, he saw some Pokémon happily running around, which made him smile a little. After some walking, he decided to sit down against a tree, closing his eyes and relaxing from a calm breeze.

Suddenly, some yelping was heard. When Damien heard that, he stood up and headed to where the yelping was coming from. After some time, he saw a horde of Starly’s pecking on two helpless Shinx’s. Damien picked up a stick and ran to them. “Hey! Leave them alone!” he yelled. When the Starly’s saw him coming, they flew off. Damien turned to the two Shinx’s, who looked to be bruised up and scared, trying to back away.

“Shh…. It’s alright, friends,” he said, kneeling down, “I’m not going to hurt you guys.”

The Shinx first looked to him, but then got closer as they cuddled against his leg, making him smile. “You guy’s really looked screwed up, right? Come. I shall take care of those bruises.” Damien picked them up and headed home.

Once home he sprayed the two Shinx with a potion, which made them whimper a little.

“Shh… It’s alright, little fellow’s,” he said, cradling them, which made them calm down. Damien put them down, and soon enough the two Shinx began to run around happily like nothing was wrong, making Damien smile. After about an hour, they suddenly run to the front door and yelped.

“What’s up, little buddies? Want to go outside?” he asked as they nodded. Damien opened the door and they ran outside, but right in front of the door, they looked to Damien.

“I guess I shall come with you two,” he said as he followed them, closing the door behind.

The two Shinx were happily playing and running around as they head back to the forest, followed by Damien. Damien gave a soft smile when he saw how happy those two were. “You know. I wish I could have a happy life like you two have.” The two Shinx suddenly looked surprised at him.

“Oh, it isn’t that much, really.” The two Shinx looked at each other for a moment then nodded and soon headed inside the forest, looking behind them to make sure Damien would follow, as he also did as he didn’t want to leave them alone.

After walking for a while, they find a Luxray who seems to be looking around for something. “Hey!” Damien said, “Looking for these?” He asked. The Luxray looked up and was amazed when he saw the two Shinx. They ran to the Luxray and cuddled his leg, making Damien smile.

It looked like the two Shinx were talking to the Luxray. The Luxray looked up to Damien, then jumped at him, making him fall and licking his face.

“Hehe… That tickles,” Damien said. The Luxray got off from Damien and walked away, followed by the two Shinx. He then stopped and looked at Damien, tilting his head wanting him to follow him, which he did.

After some walking, they suddenly stopped in front of a tree. “Uhm… Why did you guy’s brought me here?” Damien asked. The Luxray then pointed to a small, star‑shaped fragment laying in front of the tree.

“Do you guys want me to have this?” he asked. They all nodded and Damien picked it up, looking at it amazed. It suddenly start to shine as it suddenly disappeared.

“Huh?! Where did it go?!” was his reaction. He suddenly hold his head as he started to feel dizzy. “Uhh… What is this feeling?” His hands started to feel itchy. When he looked at his hands he fell down in shock as he saw blue fur has started to spread on his hands.

“Huh?! What is this? Am I hallucinating?” he said in panic. His hands turned in paws as the fur spread up and soon covered his arms. He fell down in shock as he saw what just happened to his hands and arms, but it wasn’t over yet. The blue fur soon covers his chest as black fur started to cover his lower body. A long, black furred tail grew out as a yellow star formed on the tip. Soon, his leg was covered in black fur as his feet got covered in blue fur as they as they turned in digigraded paws. Soon enough, he began to shrink down as he was swallowed by his clothes.

“Huh?! C… Can someone help me?” he said as he didn’t see something from under his clothes. The Luxray stepped to him, helping him out of his clothes, revealing he’s a Luxio now. Damien looked over his body and was surprised yet shocked to see what happened to him.

“What happened?! Why am I a Luxio?” he said. “See it as a gift from me. And a chance to a better life,” the Luxray said.

“Huh? What do you mean?” Damien said, tilting his head.

“These two here have been watching you for quite a while now. They told me you don’t have any friends and your parents doesn’t care about you, right?”

Damien looked down, a little depressed, “That’s right. I don’t have friends and my parents… they rather want to lose rather than being rich.”

“That’s why to adopt me as my son. And you can be a big brother to these two rushes,” the Luxray explained. Damien looked up in surprise, “Yo… You’re son? Really?” The Luxray nodded.

Damien smiled and swished his tail happily. Then he felt something at his tail. He looked back and saw the two Shinx jumping at the star‑shape.

“Uhm… What are you two doing?”

“Sorry, Star. We just like to play with your tail,” one of the two said, who happens to be a boy.

“Huh?! Star?” he said, tilting his head. The other Shinx nodded, who happens to be a girl, “Yes. You have a star at the tip of your tail, so we thought we could call you that.”

“Star… I actually like that name!” Damien said full of joy.

“Alright then, son. From this day on your new name will be Star.”

“Thanks, dad,” The Luxio said, cuddling against the Luxray’s leg, swishing his tail. The Luxray smiled, “Okay, you two. Let’s show your new big brother around.”

“Yes, dad!”

Star followed his new family and was amazed to see how beautiful the deeper parts of the forest were.

“Amazed, big bro?” the girl said.

“Yes! I didn’t knew these parts were this beautiful.” He answered as they kept walking around. Soon enough, they approached an Umbreon and an Espeon who were playing with a Riolu.

“Oh, good morning,” said the Umbreon, “And who might this be?”

“Miguel, this is my new son. His name is Star.”

“Ah, hello, Star,” the Espeon said, approaching them. “I’m Michael. And you already met my twin brother, Miguel.”

“Yes, I did,” he said, swishing his tail happily. The Riolu came closer, watching at Star. “Oh! A new friend?” he asked.

“Yes, Leon. Why don’t go playing with your new friend?” Michael suggested.

“Okay!” he said, coming closer to Star. “Hi! I’m Leon!”

“Hi, Leon. I’m Star,” he said, shaking his paw.

“Shall we play?” Leon asked.

“Of course!” Star said, swishing his tail.

“Okay! Tag! You’re it!” the Riolu said as he ran off, followed by the two Shinx. Star felt the sun shining on him and looked up in the air, smiling. “This is the best birthday gift ever!” he said as he ran off, chasing after Leon and his two new siblings. From that day on, Damien, who was now called Star, had a much happier life than he ever could imagine.
